CONSOLIDATING OUR
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Throughout 2025, we have engaged with more than 3000
learners using our e-learning platform and in our highly
engaging webinars and workshops. The extensive list of
presenters on page 15 demonstrates the expertise and scope
of the topics covered in the range of learning opportunities
over the year. We are extremely grateful to each one of our
facilitators for sharing their wisdom and time to strengthen
safeguarding knowledge and practice.
This year we have increased our support to Safeguarding
Offices within the Church and beyond with access to continuous
professional development. We aim to ensure Church leaders
and Safeguarding officers can create and maintain a culture of
accountability, understand relevant changes in legislation and
deepen their understanding of the NCSS requirements.
Most valuable information
and revision of materials.
The Course has enlightened me is
many areas especially in the digital and
online issues. The Course was challenging
because it was online however taking
things slowly and with the help of the
hints and thorough presentation I was
able to work my way through.
There is currently no formal vocational qualification for those
working in safeguarding children and adults at risk in Australia.
In 2026 we are working on a Safeguarding Framework that will
lead to a certification. We continue to develop our bespoke
codesigned safeguarding training offerings in response to the
learner surveys and requests from Church Entities. Also, we select
issues identified in our audits to feature in future webinar series.
My experience with ACSL has been
a reminder the Catholic Church in Australia
has a deep and genuine care about the
Safeguarding of children and vulnerable people
in our Church that goes further than ticking boxes and
minimising legal liability and extends to true pastoral mission.
ACSL consistently listens to those on the front lines of
Safeguarding work showing great respect for our role and
contribution. ACSL audits and training have helped me
put my own Safeguarding experiences in context
of the wider Church and remember there is
good work being done with great people.
I gained lots of knowledge on
NCSS, particularly the roles of
Church authorities. It gives me the felt
understanding and help me to promote
and emphasize that Safeguarding is
everyone's responsibility, dignity
and rights of everyone.
Collaboration: We have partnered
with Australian Childhood Foundation,
the Australian Commission for Human Rights
and the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island
Catholic Commission to offer their courses to our learners.
Recognition: Our courses have been recognised by the
NESA (NSW Education Standards Authority) as providing
Continuing Professional Development points. We are a
member of Australian Institute of Training and Development.

I have found the content,
style and pacing of this whole
course manageable and most
informative even though the substance
was sadly daunting. Thankyou for
devising it and making it mandatory
for leaders and leadership.
ACSL is possibly the best
professional education I have
received since leaving University
twenty years ago. You are an amazing
organisation. I encourage everyone to
join and explore the resources
you have to offer.
