LEARNING FROM OUR
SAFEGUARDING AUDITS
Since 2017 the Church has invested heavily in proactive safeguarding
work, and the evidence of this is in the findings of the ACSL audits.
Each audit is conducted checking an entitiy’s progress against the
National Catholic Safeguarding Standards (NCSS).
Each audit provides a continuous improvement plan that
reflects how our safeguarding environment has changed
including a commitment to adults at risk.
The strengths indicated by our audit findings include:
y Commitment to professional learning at all levels of Church
entities (Standard 7: Ongoing education and training)
Achieving safeguarding accreditation
is a significant milestone for our organisation.
It reflects our unwavering commitment to creating
safe and respectful environments where our clients
can thrive, and recognises the dedication of our staff,
volunteers, leadership team and Board to embedding
safeguarding into our culture, systems, and daily practice.
The auditors made some recommendations for improvement,
particularly in areas of emerging risk such as safe online
environments, which will be acted on in 2026.
y Strong people management particularly around recruitment
(Standard 5: right people, right role, right knowledge).
These findings point to the significant progress made
nationally and the strategic opportunities ahead
for ACSL to drive continuous improvement.
